Our accelerometer-based technology will reduce hospital costs as LVAD-pump failure and ischemic stroke due to clotting/thrombus formations and embolism can be avoided. Re-hospitalization will be reduced, the patient monitoring necessary at the hospital will be reduced, and the need for medication will be reduced. The overall safety and quality of life for the patients will be improved: Reduced number of complications; reduced mortality from pump failure, ischemic stroke, and pump-exchange; reduce medication; reduced hospitalization and hospital controls.   

Tech description

Our method with accelerometer attached to VAD can detect vibration continuously in real time and greatly improve the diagnosis and evaluation of VAD complications, and furthermore to automatically optimize VAD function. The method has experimentally proven to detect thrombus sizes down to 0.1 ml, where there were no changes in the pump built-in alarm mechanism based on energy consumption, which is the key parameter in VAD thrombosis diagnosis today. Our technology can differentiate different thromboembolic events and monitor the hemodynamic status of the patient.
