Optimized Medical Suction Tip for Surgical Precision and Speed

Business opportunity

In everyday surgical practice, accidental and uncontrollable bleeding during surgery can entail high risk of complications for the patient. It is of uttermost importance that the source of bleeding can be quickly identified and stopped.

With an increasing demand for surgical efficiency and precision, there is a clear business opportunity for innovative surgical tools. Our medical suction tip is poised to revolutionize the market, addressing the unmet need for effective blood management during surgeries. With high potential savings as result of reduced complications and efficient blood aspiration, the market potential is substantial.

Inven2 seeks partners for co-development and/or licensing of the technology.

Technology description

Developed by leading experts at Akershus University Hospital, this novel suction tip is designed for optimal blood removal and clear visualization during surgeries. The ring-shaped mouthpiece has efficient suction capability due to distributed suction throughout the ring and ability to focus initial blood removal on the limited, though main bleeding area located inside the ring. The standard lumen handpiece ensures compatibility with standard off-the shelf equipment. The technology readiness is currently at TRL 5 with promising animal and phantom results indicating 32% faster blood suction than standard suction tips.

Advantages

  • Enhanced surgical visibility, faster localization and control of bleeding
  • Shorter surgery times, less stress on surgeons
  • Reduced risk of complications, better outcomes for patients
  • Improved health economics through alternative use of personell and infrastructure and faster patient recoveries

IP

  • Priority patent application filed 2023
